This is a antique French Copper 'splash lid' that is 27 cm or nearly 11 inches across.

I use a splash lid all the time for spitting meats or chicken and it is great to place over a pan of potatoes to ensure they cook quickly. They are invaluable in a busy kitchen. It is balanced and totally fit for purpose. It has a rim so it fits an 10 inch pan or smaller. It has a superb swept handle, do it balances perfectly - good quality.

The handle is securely fixed with copper rivets and the patina looks stunning when light hits it.

It is an antique piece with considerable age, which shows wear and has surface scratches, the tin lining is new and hand wiped. It has been re-riveted and has a small indentation on the underside next to the new rivet. This was repaired many years ago.

It weighs 985 grams or 2 lbs 2.8 ozs a good solid lid.

It is a super size and suitable for a regular domestic cooker or range but is robust enough for professional use.

This is a great size for a frying pan.
